‘‘If you’d have told 16 year old me that i’d be designing album art for musicians, i’d have probably just laughed in your face…’’
‘‘Its like when you see that person who’s in their element: Ali, Dali, Thunburg. There’s a certain glow to them, hard to describe but its like that.’'
It’s one of the ultimate pleasures of any designer / artist to be asked to visualise the work of another artist(s). Music is something that is so personal, so emotive, that is goes without saying that a project like this often comes with its challenges. Music has been / is such a monumental part of my life that jobs like this just speak to me on another level. Its like when you see that person who’s in their element: Ali, Dali, Thunburg. There’s a certain glow to them, hard to describe but its like that.
Initial Draft Designs
Above is the original draft design which was compiled by a list of objects that the band wanted to feature in the design. This initial idea was dropped for a more favourable design idea that featured sillhouettes of the band members.
Final Album Design
‘‘It’s these little things that remind you to push hard, to work harder and every now and then stop and pinch yourself.’’
It’s mad how, when I stop to think about it, this is pretty much my dream job. If you’d have told 16 year old me that i’d be designing album art for musicians, i’d have probably just laughed in your face. My upbringing wasnt particularily glamorous nor was it very aspirational, so I feel particularily fortunate to be where I am. The social status of the band doesnt matter to me, im honoured to be in this position. It’s these little things that remind you to push hard, to work harder and every now and then stop and pinch yourself. It keeps you grounded.
