5 years of bonsai exploration, in 5 minutes.

A short film by Aidy Brooks

The first tree, I killed.

It was the result of being uninterested and ignorant. At the around the same time I was looking for longer term creative projects that didn’t involve sitting in front of a computer screen. It was staring me in the face. So, with this in mind I reluctantly delved into the art of Bonsai creation and cultivation. Learning everything I could about the craft I sought not to develop a nursery bought tree but a ‘Yamadory’ (foraged). This process took over half a year alone but from it came a new found love and appreciation for the craft. Documented in this short film are the techniques I learned along the way:

Root Training - Root Health - Repotting - Branch Bending - Branch Wiring - Creating ‘Jin’ - Feeding - Pruning - Shaping & Design

Could you leave me some feedback?

All comments and criticism welcome. Everything is annonymous.
